In small towns and rural areas, the rights of women and girls remain limited due to traditional gender roles, and there is no state-supported system of women’s shelters.

Together with local partners, Mondo supports Georgia in diverse ways based on local needs, assisting civil society organisations, rural women, internally displaced persons in Georgia, Ukrainian war refugees, and at-risk youth. Since 2019, we have been supporting the only women’s shelter in the Samegrelo region, along with its support services, providing the only safe place in the region where women can escape violence with their children.

Mondo’s activities in Georgia have been funded by the European Commission, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV), and private donors. The deployment of Mondo volunteers to Georgia is funded by the European Commission.[/vc_wp_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”44864″ img_size=”large” css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][mon_news post_cats=”929875″ read_more=”READ MORE” view_all_link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fmondo.org.ee%2Fen%2Fnews%2F|title:VIEW%20ALL” max_posts=”4″ max_years=”5″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1462362591467{background-color: #ffffff !important;}” el_class=”other-projects” el_id=”aktiivsed-projektid”][vc_column][mon_activities act_cats=”929841″ loop=”size:All|order_by:date|post_type:activity” title=”Projects in Georgia” max_posts=”4″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=””]

Examples of Mondo’s work in Georgia

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]

Trainings to support women’s independence

In cooperation with Merkuri, Mondo supported women in the Samegrelo region who are survivors of domestic violence and internally displaced persons in Georgia, offering them and their children shelter when needed, psychosocial support, legal counselling, and various trainings that help women achieve independent livelihoods. Participants have been both local women and internally displaced women from Abkhazia.

Through Mondo’s trainings, women gained new professional and digital skills to strengthen their competitiveness in the labour market or to start their own businesses (including social enterprises). Participants trained in a range of professions, including hairdressing, tailoring, and bus driving.

Participation in the trainings enabled survivors of domestic violence to achieve economic independence, leave abusive relationships, and begin caring independently for themselves and their children.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”39307″ img_size=”large” css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row disable_element=”yes”][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

partners in georgia

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Association Merkuri

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Association “Merkuri” is a non-governmental organisation established in 2004 in Zugdidi, which is located on the border of Abkhazia. “Merkuri” provides humanitarian help, support and re-socialization services for vulnerable groups – victims of domestic violence, internally displaced people etc, One of Merkuri’s main focuses is advocacy against domestic violence, particularly in rural areas.
