At Fatima Zahra Girls\u2019 School, students come from families with the fewest opportunities. It is also the only school still operating under the Taliban regime in a region where thousands of school-age girls live. In a country where nearly half of the population\u201422.9 million people\u2014needs humanitarian aid.<\/p>\n
Among the school\u2019s students are girls with disabilities, those being raised by a only one parent, or those who are internally displaced. There are also students whose families have been directly affected by conflict or natural disasters. In April 2024, sudden heavy rains hit the region, damaging the Fatima Zahra school building and the homes of many students.<\/p>\n
The current earthquake has greatly worsened the situation for people already living in extremely difficult conditions, destroying entire villages and injuring tens of thousands. People affected by the earthquake urgently need everything\u2014temporary shelter such as tents, blankets, medicine, clean drinking water, and food.<\/p>\n
