\u201c<\/span>The situation on the ground is complete chaos. Evacuating people have caused traffic jams as they flee the conflict, hindering their ability to reach safe areas. People are sleeping in cars, on the streets, and in IDP centers. Schools have suspended classes, both for security reasons and because they have been turned into temporary shelters for the displaced. For many, this is yet another traumatic experience<\/span>,\u201d said Elisabeth Viinalass, Mondo\u2019s expert on the Middle East.<\/span><\/p>\n

These attacks are a continuation of the humanitarian crisis that began two years ago, from which people have not yet recovered. This week\u2019s Israeli airstrikes have targeted densely populated residential areas in both southern Beirut and in Lebanon\u2019s eastern and southern regions.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs on March 7, more than 500,000 people have self-registrated as internally displaced people. More than 112,000 displaced people are currently sheltering in 514 collective shelters across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mondo\u2019s partner organizations, DPNA and Red Oak, have already begun receiving people at accommodation centers in the city of Saida and various locations in the Bekaa Valley. Meanwhile, partners have also started supporting evacuations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the local market is still functioning, there is an urgent need for financial support to supply the shelter centers and purchase food and other essentials.<\/span><\/p>\n
