Yemen

Mondo has been working in Lebanon since 2014.

The crisis in Yemen is the most acute in the world. According to UNICEF 22, million people, 80% of the population, are in need of humanitarian aid. The civil war has left most of the population on the brink of famine.

Mondo started development cooperation in Yemen in 2014. From 2019, we are providing humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable households. A total of 350 people have received help in the form of food packages. Food packages consist of wheat flour, oil, beans, sugar and iodized salt.

Mondo’s partner in Yemen is the Youth Leadership Development Foundation. The organisation has been active for 18-years.  It has moved from previous development cooperation activities to urgent crisis relief activities.

Yemen is one of the poorest countries in the Arab world. It faces many different development challenges. Women and men have very unequal access to economic, social and political opportunities. Mondo has been involved in preventing child marriages, protecting girls’ rights and increasing their educational opportunities. Together with the on-site partner, we offered various training opportunities, scholarships for students and support for families at risk. Early marriage, illiteracy and early school drop-out are linked to women’s future quality of life, their children’s survival and educational attainment. These factors, in turn, directly affect the stability of the country. Mondo’s goal has been to help the girls break out of this vicius circle.

Our activities are financed by development and humanitarian aid funds of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and by private donors through the Mondo Crisis Fund.
