Opinion: Lebanon in crisis

Once known as the Switzerland of the Middle East, today over 80% of Lebanon’s population lives below the official poverty line. Years of political instability, inept governance, and corruption led to a colossal debt burden in the country following the end of the civil war in 1990. New loans were used to repay old ones, until eventually it became unsustainable, writes Mondo’s Middle-East Project Manager Elisabeth Viinalass. Humanitarian Crisis in Lebanon! Mondo is collecting donations to support people in Lebanon caught in the midst of the attacks

The Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which began on Monday, have forced nearly 100,000 people into internal displacement, and they urgently need humanitarian aid. Mondo is calling on people to donate to support the accommodation centers for internally displaced persons, providing essentials such as food, hygiene products, sleeping arrangements, and equipment for the centers’ kitchens.
