Mondo collects donations to support people in Lebanon

In wars and conflicts, ordinary people always suffer. In just a few days, airstrikes by Israel on Lebanon have claimed the lives of hundreds, injured thousands, and forced many more to flee their homes. The conflict is creating a humanitarian crisis where help is needed immediately. Mondo is collecting donations to support people in Lebanon with humanitarian aid.

Every donation helps to provide essential support for internally displaced people—basic hygiene products, food, and safe shelter.

“We are witnessing a situation today that we have feared for almost a year—the intensified airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon and Beirut this week are creating a humanitarian crisis. In just a few days, the strikes have claimed hundreds of lives, injured thousands more, and forced thousands to flee their homes in search of safety. The main highway in Lebanon is packed with cars, and people are stuck in a traffic jam, while explosions can be heard in the background,” Elisabeth Viinalass, Mondo’s Middle East expert, described the situation in Lebanon.

With the donations, we can support internally displaced people with urgent humanitarian aid—mattresses, blankets, hygiene and food packs, and psychological first aid. The situation is rapidly changing, and we are acting according to the needs in the region. Mondo is working in Lebanon with partner organisations DNPA and Red Oak, which operate in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa region, respectively.

Even before the Israeli attacks, Lebanon was in a very difficult situation, with over 80% of the population living below the official poverty line due. At the same time, Lebanon is one of the countries with the highest proportion of refugees in the world. Since October of last year, there has been heavy cross-border fire between Lebanon and Israel, related to the situation in Gaza. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), even before the events of this week, at least 137 civilians had been killed in Lebanon, and over 100,000 people had been forced to relocate from southern Lebanon to safer areas.

Mondo has been working in humanitarian crises for nearly 15 years, providing urgent assistance in cooperation with local partners in Ukraine, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, and elsewhere.
