Supporting vulnerable target groups living in Kyiv with three mobile crisis centers in the winter of 2026
Mondo supports residents of Kyiv apartment buildings affected by the severe winter cold of 2026 through three mobile crisis centers. The crisis centers provide warmth around the clock, tea and coffee and light meals, the possibility to charge small devices, and internet access in residential districts where power outages are long or very frequent.
In the winter of 2026, Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, including in Kyiv, is in a very difficult condition due to Russia’s systematic attacks. Approximately 8.5 gigawatts of electricity generation capacity have been destroyed or severely damaged, including thermal power plants, combined heat and power plants, and hydroelectric power plants. A significant portion of these facilities has been struck again after initial repairs.
Together with severe cold, this has led to widespread power outages across the country. The effects are particularly felt in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia, and have also caused disruptions to heating and water services for hundreds of thousands of households. The energy crisis is deepening, and power outages last for much of the day, reaching up to 20 hours.
Mondo’s crisis centers operate according to need, but they will definitely remain actively in use and open this winter until the end of March, or longer if the cold weather persists. The equipment being purchased will allow them to be used year-round and, if necessary, redeployed again already in autumn 2026.
