Humanitarian Crisis in Lebanon! Mondo is collecting donations to support people in Lebanon caught in the midst of the attacks
/Updated 9.03.26/ The Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which began on Monday, have forced more than 500,000 people into internal displacement, and they urgently need humanitarian aid. Mondo is calling on people to donate to support the accommodation centers for internally displaced persons, providing essentials such as food, hygiene products, sleeping arrangements, and equipment for the centers’ kitchens. Help us support those in need!
“The situation on the ground is complete chaos. Evacuating people have caused traffic jams as they flee the conflict, hindering their ability to reach safe areas. People are sleeping in cars, on the streets, and in IDP centers. Schools have suspended classes, both for security reasons and because they have been turned into temporary shelters for the displaced. For many, this is yet another traumatic experience,” said Elisabeth Viinalass, Mondo’s expert on the Middle East.
These attacks are a continuation of the humanitarian crisis that began two years ago, from which people have not yet recovered. This week’s Israeli airstrikes have targeted densely populated residential areas in both southern Beirut and in Lebanon’s eastern and southern regions.
According to the Ministry of Social Affairs on March 7, more than 500,000 people have self-registrated as internally displaced people. More than 112,000 displaced people are currently sheltering in 514 collective shelters across the country.
Mondo’s partner organizations, DPNA and Red Oak, have already begun receiving people at accommodation centers in the city of Saida and various locations in the Bekaa Valley. Meanwhile, partners have also started supporting evacuations.
Since the local market is still functioning, there is an urgent need for financial support to supply the shelter centers and purchase food and other essentials.
Thank you for helping to support the people of Lebanon at this critical time!
