Mondo launches collaboration with HK Unicorn Squad in Kenya
One of the main issues is the lack of practical learning in schools, which results in STEM education being largely theoretical. This reduces young people’s interest in technology and engineering, as they do not see a clear connection between what they learn and real life.
Another major challenge in Kenya is the low representation of women in these fields. Gender inequality and traditional gender roles often steer women towards agriculture, healthcare, and the service sector, while high-tech fields remain largely out of reach for them.
With support from the Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV) and in cooperation with HK Unicorn Squad, Mondo is adapting the HK Unicorn Squad model—developed in Estonia and now widely popular—for girls in rural Kenya to support their participation and opportunities in the STEM field.
Girls’ science clubs will be established in three schools in Kisumu County, and nine specialists will be trained as facilitators, bringing STEM education to 310 girls!
