Balti ÜRO matke
Project period: January 2026 – June 2027
Project donor: Council of the Baltic Sea States – Project Support Facility (CBSS PSF)
Project partners: Latvian National Commission for UNESCO (Läti)
Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO (Leedu)
Project budget: 74 329 €
The aim of BalticMUN is to encourage young people to actively participate, speak up, and take initiative, while supporting their development into informed and responsible leaders. The project will engage young people aged 15–19, including war refugees from Ukraine, as well as schools from the UNESCO Associated Schools Network in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. UNESCO ASPnet connects nearly 10,000 schools in 181 countries, including 115 educational institutions across the Baltic states, providing support for education on sustainable development, human rights, and global citizenship.
The activities are based on the United Nations simulation format Model United Nations, through which we develop young people’s skills in argumentation, cooperation, and diplomacy, while discussing shared challenges facing the Baltic states.
Throughout 2026, preparatory events will take place in all Baltic countries, aimed at strengthening young people’s ability to participate in high-level discussions, articulate their ideas, engage in diplomatic dialogue, and contribute to regional debates.
The project will culminate in the four-day international youth conference BalticMUN 2027 in Latvia, where participants will draft joint policy recommendations and present them to policymakers. At the same time, workshops for teachers will be organised to help connect the project themes with school curricula.
