PROJECTS
Digital Transformation in Education in Uganda
Project period: August 2024 – July 2025
Project donor: ESTDEV – Estonian Centre for International Development
Project partners: Tallinn University (leading partner), Kyambogo University
Project budget: 40 840 € (total budget 99 760 €)
One of the directions Uganda has taken in education is digital transformation, which requires a significant increase in the skills of teachers. Unfortunately, national efforts do not reach everyone, and in addition to rural areas, the field of vocational education also lags behind in the acquisition of knowledge.
This is emphasised by the UNESCO 2022 report on the subject, which notes that access to digital skills training for vocational education teachers is limited in low- and middle-income countries compared to teachers in other educational institutions. However, the digital ability of the teachers themselves plays a decisive role in the students’ skills.
With the cooperation project of Mondo, Tallinn University and Kyambogo University of Uganda “Digital Transformation in Education: Co-creating Institutionally Driven Innovations in the Republic of Uganda’s TVET System”, we support the creation and long-term implementation of a digital transformation agenda for vocational schools in Uganda.
With this project, the national ICT policies, learning theories, methods and curricula of vocational education will be mapped and an action plan and strategy will be developed to solve today’s shortcomings by taking advantage of the already existing strengths in the system. The trainings of Estonian experts help to increase the digital capacity of the project participants on the Ugandan side, which enables them to be leaders of institutional innovations and creators of change.
