Mondo works to ensure safe and warm living conditions for internally displaced people in frontline regions of Ukraine during the winter and supports Ukrainian war refugees in Georgia with access to medical supplies.
Ukraine is preparing for its fourth winter since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. The deteriorating security situation and Russia’s recent territorial gains are further deepening existing humanitarian challenges. Continued attacks on critical infrastructure, particularly in the energy sector, will severely affect living conditions in the coming winter months, especially in areas close to the frontline.
Mondo is improving living conditions for 678 internally displaced people, including elderly people, persons with disabilities, women, and children, in the Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions. Sixteen collective sites will receive heating appliances and fuel to ensure adequate living conditions during the cold season, with two sites undergoing renovation.
In Georgia, Mondo supports 460 Ukrainian refugees through cash-based assistance to help them meet critical needs. Vouchers will be distributed to purchase essential medicines as well as diapers and baby formula for infants and young children.
The project “Provision of winter repairs, heating and fuel to IDP collective sites in Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts in Ukraine and cash-based assistance to Ukrainian refugees in Georgia” aligns with OCHA’s 2025 Ukraine Winterization Plan, focusing on improving housing conditions and ensuring the functionality of heating systems to prevent cold-related harm and protect human dignity. The activities in Georgia follow UNHCR guidelines and have been coordinated with local humanitarian partners.
