Psychosocial support for vulnerable women and children in Ukraine
Project period: December 2025 – November 2026
Project donor: Secours Populaire Français
Project partner: NGO Sonce UA
Project budget: 157 110 €
Mondo supports the psychosocial well-being of internally displaced women and children living in the collective accommodation sites in Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions in Ukraine and provides them non-food assistance.
People in Ukraine face a multitude of daily hardships: direct physical threats from bombing and shelling, forced displacement, separation from family, lack of convenient living conditions due to power and heating shortages caused by destruction, increasing household expenses, housing shortages and many more. The layered and complex challenges brought by the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine take a large toll on the mental health of everyone affected. Studies indicate that 40-50% of Ukraine’s total population require psychosocial support of various intensity. The most vulnerable are the people living near the frontline, and those with low income.
The activities of this project will focus on mothers and children, alleviating stress and improving coping mechanisms, caused by displacement and the ongoing conflict. The project will also include the provision of non-food items to improve living conditions across all temporary collective sites involved. Additional activities include elements of art-therapy, group trainings, games, and events such as “Green Santa,” which provides gifts to children to promote positive social engagement.
Games, movement and joint activity are crucial for the development of resilience in children and teenagers as reflected in various researches. Therefore, it is important to involve these types of activities in order to provide multifaceted support to the children and teenagers residing at temporary collective sites. At the same time, complex psychosocial training and support will be offered to the adult residents.
The activities of the project “Provision of non-food items and psychosocial support for vulnerable women and children in collective sites for IDPs in Ukraine” are coordinated with technical working groups on mental health and psychosocial services to ensure alignment with best practices. This integrated approach aims to create a sustainable impact on the mental health and overall welfare of displaced populations.
