PROJECTS

Supporting Ukrainian Refugees to overcome Trauma and Settlement to Estonia

Project period: October 2023 – September 2025

Project donor: U.S. Department of State

Project partners: DocuMental Care Clinic, MTÜ Shokkin Group

Project budget: 575 160 USD

Since the full-scale war in Ukraine and the arrival of Ukrainian refugees, Estonia has transformed from one of the European countries with the lowest number of refugees to one of the largest. This poses significant challenges for Estonia’s education and healthcare systems, labour market, and integration system.

Mondo aims to enhance the inclusion of Ukrainian refugees in Estonian society. To achieve this, we focus on four main goals: increasing meaningful personal contacts between Estonian and Ukrainian youth and communities; enhancing the capacity of Estonian educators to manage in a multicultural classroom and supporting the integration of Ukrainian teachers into the Estonian education system; improving the digital skills of Ukrainian refugees to support their employment in Estonia; and improving the mental health of Ukrainian refugees so they can actively participate in Estonian society.

During the project period, we bring together Estonian and Ukrainian people in youth camps and social events, where people from different backgrounds connect through food, music, and meaningful conversations. Additionally, we offer Ukrainian refugees free mental health counselling through the Documental clinic, where consultations are held via online meetings with Ukrainian specialists in the Ukrainian language. Digital competence training helps refugees succeed in Estonia’s e-state and navigate digital services.
