Winterisation aid for Ukraine
Project period: October 2024 – December 2024
Project donor: Eesti Välisministeerium
Project partners: Dobrobat (in Ukraine), Angels of Salvation (in Ukraine), Georgian Ukrainian Platform (in Georgia)
Project budget: 235 921 €
Ukraine is facing its third winter since the escalation of the war in February 2022. Ongoing attacks on the country and its energy infrastructure are worsening already difficult winter conditions. According to 2024 data from OCHA, nearly 14.6 million people in Ukraine require humanitarian aid. Around 4 million internally displaced people (IDPs) have particularly high needs, with 85 808 individuals living in 2595 IDP collective sites. The people most affected are in areas close to the front line.
Mondo aims to ensure basic, safe living conditions for 1081 IDPs, including the elderly, people with disabilities, women, and children, in Ukraine during the winter of 2024/25. To achieve this, we will repair an IDP collective sites in Kharkiv and provide 17 centers in the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions with heating materials and equipment to maintain livable conditions through the cold season.
In addition, our project will support Ukrainian refugees in Georgia. There are around 26 000 Ukrainian refugees in the country, of whom 88% lacked sufficient funds last year to support themselves and their families. In a survey by People in Need, key challenges highlighted included affording food, medical services, and heating.
We will support these refugees in the Tbilisi area with cash-based assistance, providing 600 refugees with vouchers for purchasing medications and supplies such as diapers and formula for infants aged 0-2. This assistance addresses urgent needs arising from high unemployment and living costs while also supporting and complementing Georgia’s government aid programs and aligning with the UN’s assistance framework.
The name of the project: Provision of winter repairs, heating and fuel to IDP collective sites in Dnipropetrovska and Kharkivska oblast in Ukraine and cash-based assistance to Ukrainian refugees in Georgia
