Supporting Mental Health of Ukrainian People Through the Digital Platform DocuMental
Project period: April 2026 – March 2027
Project donor: ESTDEV – Estonian Centre for International Development
Project partners: TalTech, DocuMental
Project budget: €213,190
Mondo provides mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to people affected by the war in Ukraine through the DocuMental platform.
In Ukraine, the extremely difficult circumstances caused by Russia’s full-scale war have pushed the country’s population into a mental health crisis. Studies show that 40–50% of the Ukrainian population requires psychosocial support. People living in frontline areas and low-income households are the most vulnerable. According to Mondo’s study, 70% of internally displaced children experience constant stress.
With this project through the DocuMental platform, at least 1,800 online psychological and psychiatric consultations will be provided, reaching 1,125 people, particularly in frontline and rural areas. Tallinn University of Technology integrates internationally recognised mental health screening tools (GAD-2, PHQ-2 and WHO-5) in Ukrainian, enabling early identification of mental health needs and targeted referral to specialists. The standardised use of these tools generates aggregated data that supports public health analysis, helping identify regional needs and risk groups and improving mental health service planning in Ukraine. In addition, eight Ukrainian mental health specialists strengthen their competencies in telepsychiatry and e-health through a study grant in Estonia, to participate in the Estonian Health Tech Week 2026, focusing on e-health, telemedicine, and digital health and artificial intelligence solutions.
Through the DocuMental platform, Mondo has provided over 9,000 psychiatric and psychological consultations along with an online diagnostic system. This support helps ensure access to professional mental health services across the country, especially in areas where service availability has been disrupted.
