About Mondo

Mondo is an Estonian organisation aiming to reduce global inequality. Mondo operates in 12 countries abroad and in Estonia. Mondo focuses on education/health, subsistence, environmental and digital competence programmes in partner countries, and global education in Estonia.

Mondo was established in Estonia on 12 November 2007 at the initiative of nine Estonian people of different backgrounds. They all shared the same feeling—Estonia needs an organisation which would enable cooperation with communities in lower income countries that would create concrete contribution opportunities for Estonians and raise awareness of global challenges. The word “Mondo” is in Esperanto and refers to a more equal future. Mondo associates boldly believe that the world can be turned into a more equal place and every little action is a step in the right direction.

Today, Mondo has become a strong and unique organisation—small on a global scale but big on the Estonian one. The 12 partner states of Mondo are Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Ukraine, Georgia, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and Burma. In all partner states, Mondo cooperates with local organisations; it has its own office in Uganda. Mondo’s team is made up of over 25 experts in development cooperation, humanitarian aid and global education. Mondo also has a social enterprise called Mondo Crafts that supports Mondo’s communities in the world by selling ethical crafts in Estonia.
