PROJECTS

Fair trade in Estonia

Project period: January 2022 – December 2023

Project donor: Fairtrade Finland

Fair trade aims to reduce global poverty by supporting the most vulnerable communities and small farmers through the protection of human and labor rights and the elimination of child and slave labor. Additionally, it is important to keep in mind environmental conservation and reducing the impacts of climate change. Mondo has been promoting fair trade principles in Estonia for years and continues to do so, mainly by supporting educators through maailmakool.ee.

The aim of this project is to raise young people’s awareness of fair trade and responsible decision-making. The focus is on making them aware of the direct connections between our purchasing decisions and the raw material producers in the global south. Additionally, it aims to explain the value of fair and sustainable production, trade, supply, and consumption chains, as well as the connections between environmental protection and climate change.

Through this, young people’s understanding and making of responsible decisions, as well as the demand for and availability of such products in Estonia, will increase. Indirectly, this will reduce the social and environmental risks associated with poverty in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

The project will organise Fair Trade Day and Fair Trade Month and offer cooperation, solutions, and materials to educational institutions and educators to help integrate this topic into their daily work.
