PROJECTS
Raising public awareness in Estonia about development cooperation and humanitarian aid
Project duration: April 2026 – March 2027
Project funder: ESTDEV – Estonian Centre for International Development
Project budget: 84 145 €
Mondo works consistently to raise the awareness of Estonian people about development cooperation and humanitarian aid, the importance of these fields, and to offer people opportunities to contribute themselves.
In 2026, the focus is on raising awareness both of these fields and of their connection to Estonia’s foreign policy goals. We highlight Estonia’s role and success stories in supporting the development goals of target countries, alleviating humanitarian crises, and the impact of these activities on ourselves here in Estonia.
At the core of the project is a nationwide public awareness campaign combining traditional and social media. In cooperation with ERR, we offer a special film month focusing on development cooperation and humanitarian aid, featuring thematic documentary films and introductions that also reach the Russian-speaking population. In addition, we are conducting a campaign in public spaces aimed at increasing awareness and support for these topics. The campaign is supported by community discussion events in rural areas.
We focus separately on journalists and media houses – in cooperation with the University of Tartu, we are once again conducting training for journalism students and offering training opportunities for journalists. We also support the involvement of journalists through research grants, which enable three journalists to go on missions to Estonia’s development cooperation target countries.
The project is titled „Raising public awareness on the role of development cooperation and humanitarian aid in Estonian society, foreign policy and security”.
