Mondo volunteers support the resilience of more vulnerable communities by developing the skills of people. Over the years, Mondo has sent more than one hundred volunteers to over ten countries.
Within the framework of the RISE project — Reinforcing Inclusion through Solidarity and Empowerment — Mondo is sending 10 volunteers to Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, and Georgia to strengthen the social inclusion, digital skills, and climate adaptation of vulnerable communities. Volunteers support community members through practical activities (e.g. workshops, campaigns, trainings) based on the communities needs.
In Zugdidi, Georgia, volunteers support internally displaced women and youth from marginalized groups through the NGO Merkuri. Activities focus on improving digital skills, environmental education, and the development of social skills.
In Ghana, we send volunteers to two partner organisations (GDCA and KoCDA) in the northern part of the country. Volunteers mainly support women in topics related to the environment and digital skills. Their activities help diversify income sources for poorer rural communities, support non-formal education, and strengthen resilience to the impacts of climate change.
In Kenya, the NGO CIVS integrates volunteers into its rural community programs. Volunteers take part in awareness-raising activities on permaculture, waste sorting, and nursery management, and provide digital skills training for youth. These activities help strengthen local capacities for sustainable natural resource management and reduce the economic exclusion of young people by linking environment, employment, and civic participation.
In Uganda, UPA directs volunteers to different regions to support existing initiatives for women and youth. Volunteers contribute to women’s entrepreneurship groups (e.g. soap-making, sewing, community investment), conduct training sessions in schools on digital technology and environmental awareness, and participate in educational workshops for children. These activities help increase the independence of target groups and ensure the sustainability of local initiatives by promoting inclusion and awareness.
