Mondo supports the Ugandan education system and helps improve the quality of teacher training by initiating a digital transition in primary teachers’ colleges.

Uganda’s education system faces significant challenges in developing digital competencies, especially in rural areas where the economic focus is predominantly on agriculture and access to digital infrastructure and skills is limited. The digital skills of educators in rural areas are also generally low, and the use of digital tools in teaching is uneven or minimal. At the same time, teachers’ inadequate digital skills stem from insufficient training, which strongly impacts the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in the classroom.

The primary teachers’ colleges targeted by the project play a key role in the Ugandan education system, as they train future primary school teachers. If college educators lack adequate digital competencies and experience in integrating digital tools into teaching, this deficiency is passed on to future teachers and, in turn, to primary school students. Solving this systemic issue at the college level allows for achieving a long-term and multiplied impact across the entire education chain.

Mondo supports the professional development of educators, helps prevent the digital divide in the country, and ensures that the digitalization of the Ugandan education system takes place inclusively and sustainably, offering equal opportunities to both educators and learners regardless of their geographical location.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Sports of Uganda, an effective train-the-trainer model will be developed, a study visit to Estonia will take place where digital transition strategies for their institutions will be designed, and digital competence development teams will be formed in the colleges to initiate real change management benefiting staff members and future teachers related to these 5 institutions: Moroto Core Primary Teachers’ College, Kabale Bukinda Core Primary Teachers’ College, Sancta Maria Core Primary Teachers’ College, Soroti Primary Teachers’ College, Kabulasoke Core Primary Teachers’ College.

The digital readiness of each teacher training college will be thoroughly mapped, and learning processes will be adapted to local needs. The goal is to train educators from five primary teachers’ colleges through the Mondo DigiSkills Academy across Uganda’s Central, Eastern, South-Western, and North-Eastern regions, focusing on the practical application of digital skills in teaching.

As a result of this cooperation, a sustainable and innovation-oriented learning environment will be created in Uganda.
