In Georgia, there is still no state-supported system of women’s shelters. In small towns and rural areas, the rights of women and girls are limited due to traditional gender roles. Women are often left in a vulnerable situation where they don’t have the opportunity to defend themselves or stand up for their rights. 

Mondo’s partner in Georgia, Association Merkuri, combats with violence against women. In March 2018, with the help of Mondo, Merkuri opened the only women’s shelter in the Samegrelo region. The shelter has no state funding, and the municipality supports only 10% of its budget.
