Enhancing the digital capacity of the West Nile region

Project period: July 2023 – December 2023

Project donor: ESTDEV — Estonian Centre for International Development

Project partner: Arua Core Primary Teacher’s College, Ministry of Education and Sports

Uganda’s vision for development in the country 2040 emphasizes the importance of ICT in learning and teaching. In reality, in most cases, these recommendations are not reaching classrooms. According to research the biggest drawback of implementing digital solutions is the lack of digital skills of teachers.

Mondo’s project “Enhancing the digital capacity of the West Nile region through empowering the education system” focuses on one of the poorest regions of Uganda – the West Nile region – where the main source of income is agriculture. (Data from Global Data Lab, 2016) The growth of the level of digital competencies in the region will help to reduce already existing inequality and to prevent the digital gap in the future.

During the project, Mondo empowers the West Nile educational cluster to support the development of teachers’ digital competencies. This will give teachers better skills and knowledge to apply modern teaching methods and support the development of students’ digital skills, which in turn increases the competitiveness of both students and teachers in the labour market. 327 people, among them future teachers, mentors, instructors and executive teachers, will take part in training during the project.
