Kenya

We have been active in Kenya since 2010.

We work in cooperation with a local partner in the Shianda village of Western Kenya. We offer financial aid to primary and secondary school students of the area, and help to increase the quality of education and school environment of the local schools. With the help of volunteering experts from Estonia, we assist local women in establishing their sewing entrepreneurship, and in building up an agricultural assiciation that deals with poultry farming.

Mondo’s activities in Kenya have been supported by the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and private donors.

Partner in Kenya

Western Focus Community Organization

Mondo’s partner in Kenya is a local community organisation Wefoco, comprised of 25 self-help groups of 500 women. The organisation is lead by Esther Naliaka Mumia (pictured in the photo above) – the only woman in the village who has higher education. Thanks to well-functioning women’s groups, we are constantly informed of the needs and sources of livelihood of the children and widows in need. In addition to orphans and HIV-positive people, Wefoco also supports community entrepreneurship. With support from Mondo, a poultry farming agricultural union and a sewing workshop has been established. Wefoco offers Estonian volunteers an induction training and supports them during the time of deployment. Furthermore, Wefoco coordinators help facilitate the communication between Estonian and Kenyan sister schools. Read more about Wefoco here.
